About Us

Established in 2018, Petrichor Films stems from a long heritage of wildlife and tourism involvement in Northern Botswana. Its founder, Alistair Wilmot, descends from a family legacy deeply entrenched in the history of the Okavango Delta and its surrounds. It is this rich and intimate connection that helps feed his love and passion for wildlife. Through both tourism and wildlife filmmaking, it has allowed him to share and inspire people and audiences from around the world, to find deep and meaningful connections to nature aided now by the power of film.

After a ten-year career in Nature Guiding and Tourism, Alistair decided to step back from safaris to further pursue his passion for wildlife filmmaking. Through this previous experience, he has successfully hosted numerous international and local film crews acting as a fixer as well as both guide and cameraman, across multiple productions. Combining his knowledge and passion for the wilds of Botswana with a creative and adventurous mind, Alistair leads Petrichor Films with an open heart and a sincere appreciation for the wonders and beauty Botswana has to offer.

Family Legacy

Petrichor Films is nestled along the banks of the Kiri River, about 25kms out of Maun. Shaded by ancient Leadwood trees and overlooking the Tsutsubega floodplains, the site affords the perfect place to reconnect to nature and find inspiration for the unique and privileged work we carry out. Due to its very close proximity to a protected wildlife area, it is not uncommon for some of the ‘usual characters’ to pass by in the floodplain or stalk past at night. It is this wild and remote location that also helps inspire us to appreciate and portray authentic and meaningful wildlife stories.

Petrichor Films has always had an “open door” policy and we invite our field producers and crew members to come and share this peaceful sanctuary with us. We offer Meru Style tented accommodation overlooking the perennial river, shaded by large trees. Our production services start long before any shoot begins and long after “it’s a wrap!”  We pride ourselves in developing and nurturing genuine and professional relationships with our clients and we look forward to welcoming you into this wild eden we call home!
